Deuteronomy - Chapter 6

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your [our] God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee to-day, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. And these (are) the ordinances, and the judgments, which the Lord commanded the children of Israel in the wilderness, when they had gone forth from the land of Egypt.

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart [thy mind], and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart and in thy soul.:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be immoveable as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts [lintels] of thy house, and on thy gates.

10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly [beautiful] cities, which thou buildedst not,

11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged in the rock, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him only, and thou shalt cleave to him, and shalt swear by his name.

14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

16 Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah [in the temptation].

17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,

19 To cast out [to chase] all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

20 And it shall come to pass when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you [us]?

21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen [slaves] in the land of Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with a high arm:

22 And the LORD shewed [wrought] signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware to give unto our fathers.

24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes [ordinances], to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

25 And it shall be our righteousness [there shall be mercy to us], if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Deuteronomy - Chapter 5

1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them [and observe to do them].

2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us [with you] in Horeb.

3 The LORD made not this covenant with our [your] fathers, but with us [you], even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me [before my face].

8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor shalt thou serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity [sins] of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD thy God will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

13 Six days thou shalt labour, and thou shalt do all thy work:

14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant, and thine ox, may rest as well as thou.

15 And remember that thou wast a servant [a slave] in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day and to sanctify it.

16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

17 Thou shalt not kill [commit murder].

18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

19 Neither shalt thou steal.

20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, nor any beast of his, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

22 These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, storm, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness [of the fire], (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

24 And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, even all things which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it [for an inheritance].

32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, that he may give thee rest and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. that he may give thee rest

Numbers - Chapter 5

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue of the reins, and whosoever is defiled by the dead [unclean from a dead body]:

3 Both male and female shall ye put out, without the camp shall ye put them; that they defile not their camps, in the midst whereof I dwell.

4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them out without the camp: as the LORD spake unto Moses, so did the children of Israel.

5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

6 Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty [if that soul shall in anywise have neglected the commandment and transgressed];

7 Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.

8 But if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass unto, let the trespass-offering be recompensed unto the LORD, even to the priest; beside the ram of the atonement, whereby an atonement shall be made for him.

9 And every offering [first-fruits] of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring unto the priest [whatsoever they shall offer to the Lord], shall be his.

10 And every man’s hallowed things shall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it [the gift] shall be his.

11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

12 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside [shall transgress against him], and commit a trespass against him [slight and despise him],

13 And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;

14 And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:

15 Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering [a sacrifice] of jealousy, an offering [a sacrifice] of memorial, bringing iniquity [sin] to remembrance.

16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:

17 And the priest shall take holy [running] water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle of witness the priest shall take, and put it into the water:

18 And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering [sacrifice] of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering [the sacrifice of jealousy]: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water [the water of this conviction] that causeth the curse:

19 And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband [being under the power of thy husband], be thou free from this bitter water [this water of the conviction] that causeth the curse:

20 But if, being a married woman, thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:

21 Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;

22 And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels [thy womb], to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen [So be it, So be it].

23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water [the water of the conviction that brings the curse]:

24 And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water [the water of the conviction] that causeth the curse: and the water of the conviction that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.

25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering [the sacrifice of jealousy] out of the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering [the sacrifice] before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:

26 And the priest shall take an handful of the offering [of the sacrifice], even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.

27 And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband [and have altogether escaped the notice of her husband], that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.

28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free [be guiltless], and shall conceive seed.

29 This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband [should happen to transgress], and is defiled;

30 Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.

31 Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity [sin], and this woman shall bear her iniquity [her sin].

Leviticus - Chapter 5

1 And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

2 Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast [taken of beasts], or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.

3 Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall touch and be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it [but afterwards he should know], then he shall be guilty [shall have transgressed].

4 Or if a soul swear, that unrighteous soul, which determines pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

5 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:

6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD [for his transgressions against the Lord] for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin, and his sin shall be forgiven him.

7 And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.

8 And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and the priest shall wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it asunder [divide the body]:

9 And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar: it is a sin offering.

10 And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he hath sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

11 But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sinned shall bring for his offering [as his gift for his sin] the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.

12 Then shall he bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: it is a sin offering.

13 And the priest shall make an atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in one of these things, and it shall be forgiven him: and the remnant shall be the priest’s, as a meat offering [an offering of fine flour].

14 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

15 If a soul commit a trespass, the soul which shall be really unconscious and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering [for his (transgression) wherein he transgressed]:

16 And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done [for that wherein he has sinned] in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.

17 And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD, which it is not right to do; though he wist it not [has not known it], yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity [shall have contracted guilt].

18 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, at a price of silver for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not [knew it not], and it shall be forgiven him.

19 It is a trespass offering: he hath certainly trespassed [been guilty of transgression] against the LORD.

Exodus - Chapter 5

1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go [Send my people away], that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 And Pharaoh said, Who is [he] the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go that [I should send away the children of Israel]? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3 And they said to him, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go [we will go], we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword [lest at any time death or slaughter happen to us].

4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens [let us not then give them rest from their work].

6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers [the accountants], saying,

7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore [as yesterday and the third day]: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 Let there more work be laid upon the men [Let the works of these men be made grievous], that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.

10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, hastened them, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.

12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw given you.

14 And the officers [the accountants of the race] of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task [your rates] in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?

15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people [thou wilt therefore injure thy people].

17 But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle [ye are idlers]: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.

18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case [plight], after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

20 And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way [coming forth to meet them], as they came forth from Pharaoh:

21 And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

1 This is the genealogy of men, the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness, in the image of God made he him;

3 And Adam lived an [two] hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight [seven] hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

6 And Seth lived an [two] hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

21 And Enoch lived an hundred and sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

22 And Enoch walked with God, and Enoch was well-pleasing to God after he begat Methuselah three [two] hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God, and Enoch was well-pleasing to God, and he was not, and was not found, for God took him. God translated him.

25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty [sixty] and seven years, and begat Lamech:

26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven [eight] hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:

27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two [eight] years, and begat a son:

29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety [sixty] and five years, and begat sons and daughters:

31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years [and fifty-three years]: and he died.

32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
