Numbers - Chapter 30

1 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.

2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

3 If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;

4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand, and all the obligations with which she has bound her soul, shall remain to her..

5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her [hold her guiltless], because her father disallowed her.

6 And if she had at all an husband [should be indeed married], when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;

7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.

8 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect because her husband has disallowed her: and the LORD shall forgive her.

9 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced [put away], wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her.

10 And if she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath;

11 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand against her.

12 But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand to her: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her [hold her guiltless].

13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.

14 But if her husband altogether hold his peace [be wholly silente] at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.

15 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her [his] iniquity.

16 These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.

Exodus - Chapter 30

1 And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim [incorruptible] wood shalt thou make it.

2 A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of the same piece.

3 And thou shalt overlay it, its grate, with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown [a wreathen border] of gold round about.

4 And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it [its wreathen border], by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal.

5 And thou shalt make the staves of shittim [incorruptible] wood, and overlay them with gold.

6 And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by [over] the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee [make myself known to thee from thence].

7 And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet [fine compound] incense every morning: when he dresseth [trims] the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.

8 And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense-offering before the LORD throughout your generations.

9 Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering [and offering made by fire]; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon.

10 And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements [of purification]: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD.

11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

12 When [If] thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague, a destruction, among them, when thou numberest them [in the visiting of them].

13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel [didrachm] after the shekel [didrachm] of the sanctuary: (a shekel [didrachm] is twenty gerahs [oboli]) an half shekel [didrachm] shall be the offering of the LORD.

14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.

15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel [didrachm], when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.

16 And thou shalt take the atonement money [the money of the offering] of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation [of testimony]; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.

17 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

18 Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and his foot also of brass, to wash withal: and thou shalt put it between the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness] and the altar, and thou shalt put water therein.

19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat [with water from it]:

20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness], they shall wash themselves with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to offer the whole burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:

21 So they shall wash their hands and their feet with water, whensoever they shall go into the tabernacle of witness; they shall wash themselves with water,, that they die not: and it shall be a statute for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations [his posterity after him].

22 Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23 Take thou also unto thee principal spices [sweet herbs], the flower of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet-smelling calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,

24 And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin:

25 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an [perfumed] ointment compound after the art of the apothecary [the perfumer]: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness] therewith, and the ark of the testimony [of the tabernacle of witness],

27 And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,

28 And the altar of whole burnt offering with all his vessels, and the table and all its furniture, and the laver and his foot.

29 And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.

30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate, sanctify, them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

31 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be to you an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

32 Upon man’s flesh shall it not be poured, neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it: it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.

33 Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger [shall give of it to a stranger], shall even be cut off from his people.

34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and sweet galbanum; these sweet spices with pure [transparente] frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight:

35 And thou shalt make it a perfume [perfumed incense], a confection after the art of the apothecary [perfumer], tempered together, pure and holy work:

36 And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony [testimonies] in the tabernacle of the congregation [of testimony], where I will meet with thee [make myself known to thee]: it shall be unto you a most holy incense.

37 And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD.

38 Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.

Genesis - Chapter 30

1 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

2 And Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God’s stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

5 And Bilhah, Rachel's maid, conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

6 And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

7 And Bilhah Rachel’s maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.

8 And Rachel said, God has helped me. With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife; and he went in to her.

10 And Zilpah Leah’s maid conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

11 And Leah said, A troop cometh; [It is happily]; and she called his name Gad.

12 And Zilpah Leah’s maid conceived yet again, and bare Jacob a second son.

13 And Leah said, Happy am I, I am blessed, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.

14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat [barley] harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes.

15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes.

16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son’s mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.

18 And Leah said, God hath given me my hire [my reward], because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar, which is, Reward.

19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

20 And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry in this time; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

21 And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and Rachel said, God hath taken away my reproach:

24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.

27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, I would augur, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

28 And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

29 And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy many cattle was with me.

30 For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

31 And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again tend, feed and keep thy

flock:

32 I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, [every grey sheep among the rams] and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: [this shall be my reward], and of such shall be my hire.

33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep [grey among the rams], that shall be counted stolen with me.

34 And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

35 And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and all that was grey among the rams, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

36 And he set three days’ journey betwixt himself [them] and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban’s flocks that were left behind.

37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree [storax tree and walnut and plane-tree]; and pilled white strakes in them, and as he drew off the green, made the white appear alternate which was in the rods.

38 And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink at the rods.

39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted with ash-coloured spots.

40 And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked [and set before the sheep a speckled ram], and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban’s cattle.

41 And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

42 But he did not put them in indiscriminately whenever the cattle happened to bring forth. But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s [the unmarked ones were Laban's, and the marked ones were Jacob's].

43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.
