Deuteronomy - Chapter 2

 1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.

2 And the LORD spake unto me, saying,

3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you, and dread you greatly: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:

5 Meddle not with them [Do not engage in war against them]; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession [as an inheritance].

6 Ye shall buy meat of them by measure for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.

7 For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness [consider how thou wentest through that great and terrible wilderness]: behold, these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain [of Araba] from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness [of the desert] of Moab.

9 And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession [inheritance]; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession [to inherit].

10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall [powerful], as the Anakims;

11 Which also were accounted giants [Raphain], as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.

12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.

13 Now then, rise up, said I, and get you over the brook [the valley of] Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

14 And the space [the days] in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook [valley of] Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host [dying out of the camp], as the LORD sware unto them.

15 For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.

16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

17 That the LORD spake unto me, saying,

18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab [the borders of Moab to Aroer], this day:

19 And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle [wage war] with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.

20 (That also was accounted a land of giants [of Raphain]: giants [the Raphain] dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;

21 A people great, and many, and tall [mightier], as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:

22 As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:

23 And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah [to Gaza], the Caphtorims [the Cappadocians], which came forth out of Caphtor [Cappadocia], destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle this day.

25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee [when they have heard thy name], and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

27 Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

28 Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;

29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.

31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon, the king of Esebon the Amorite, and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.

32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

34 And we took possession of all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:

35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

36 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river [in the valley], even unto the mount of Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:

37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.

Numbers - Chapter 2

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

2 Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, every man keeping his own rank, with the ensign of their father’s house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness] shall they pitch.

3 And they that encamp first on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain [prince] of the children of Judah.

4 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

5 And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Issachar: and Nethaneel the son of Zuar shall be captain [prince] of the children of Issachar.

6 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.

7 Then the tribe of Zebulun: and Eliab the son of Helon shall be captain [prince] of the children of Zebulun.

8 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

9 All that were numbered in the camp of Judah were an hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, throughout their armies. These shall first set forth [they shall move first with their forces].

10 On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben according to their armies: and the captain [prince] of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.

11 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

12 And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon: and the captain [prince] of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

13 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

14 Then the tribe of Gad: and the captain [prince] of the sons of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel.

15 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty.

16 All that were numbered in the camp of Reuben were an hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they shall set forth in the second rank [they with their forces shall proceed in the second place].

17 Then the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness] shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp: as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards [each one next in order to his fellow according to their companies].

18 On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their armies: and the captain [head] of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.

19 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand and five hundred.

20 And by him shall be the tribe of Manasseh: and the captain [prince] of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

21 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

22 Then the tribe of Benjamin: and the captain [prince] of the sons of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni.

23 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

24 All that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were an hundred thousand and eight thousand and an hundred, throughout their armies. And they shall go forward in the third rank.

25 The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side by their armies: and the captain [prince] of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

26 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.

27 And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher: and the captain [prince] of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran.

28 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

29 Then the tribe of Naphtali: and the captain [prince] of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan.

30 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

31 All they that were numbered in the camp of Dan were an hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred. They shall go hindmost with their standards [they shall set out last according to their order].

32 These are those which were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers: all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

33 But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses.

34 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards [they encamped in their order], and so they set forward [they began their march], every one after their families [according to their divisions], according to the house of their fathers.

Leviticus - Chapter 2

1 And when any will offer a meat offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon, it is a sacrifice:

2 And he shall bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the fine flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:

3 And the remnant of the meat offering [of the sacrifice] shall be Aaron’s and his sons’: it is a thing most holy of the offerings [sacrifices] of the LORD made by fire.

4 And if thou [he] bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the oven, a gift to the Lord of fine flour, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.

5 And if thy oblation [gift] be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.

6 Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering, a sacrifice to the Lord.

7 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, a sacrifice from the hearth, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.

8 And thou [he] shalt bring the meat offering [the sacrifice] that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.

9 And the priest shall approach the altar, and the priest shall take from the meat offering [from the sacrifice] a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an offering made by fire, a smell of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

10 And that which is left of the meat offering [of the sacrifice] shall be Aaron’s and his sons’: it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.

11 No meat offering [sacrifice], which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.

12 [Ye shall bring them in the way of fruits to the Lord] As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet-smelling savour.

13 And every oblation of thy meat offering [every gift of your sacrifice] shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering [from your sacrifices]: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt to the Lord your God.

14 And if thou offer a meat offering [a sacrifice] of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears.

15 And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering [a sacrifice].

16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Exodus - Chapter 2

1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son, a male child: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

3 And when she [they] could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags [in the ooze] by the river’s brink.

4 And his sister stood afar off, watching to wit what would be done to him.

5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, in the ooze, she sent her maid to fetch it.

6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she, the daughter of Pharao, had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse [suckled] the child for thee?

8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid, the young woman, went and called the child’s mother.

9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse [suckled] it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, the sons of Israel, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren the children of Israel.

12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

14 And he said, Who made thee a prince [a ruler] and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and having come into the land of Madiam he sat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, feeding the flock of their father Jothor and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and drew water for them, and watered their flock.

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said to them, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him therefore, that he may eat bread.

21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter to wife.

22 And she conceived and bare him a son, and he [Moses] called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage [because of their tasks], and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them, and was made known to them.

Genesis - Chapter 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host [the whole world], of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested [ceased] on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested [ceased] from all his work which God created, [which God began to do] and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth [This [is] the book of the generation of heaven and Earth] when they were created [made], in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist [a fountain] from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils [upon his face], the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of learning the knowledge of good and evil.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone [carbuncle and emerald].

13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel [Tigris]; that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15 And the LORD God took the man, whom he had formed, and put him into the garden of Eden [garden of Delight] to dress [to cultivate] it and to keep it.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet, suitable for him.

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him [like to himself].

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep [a trance] to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man [from Adam], made he a woman, and brought her unto the man [to Adam].

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man [of her husband].

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they two shall be one flesh.

25 And they two were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
