Deuteronomy - Chapter 1

1 These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, towards the West in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth [and Aulon], and Dizahab [the gold Works].

2 (There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.)

3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;

4 After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:

5 On this side [beyond] Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

6 The LORD our [your] God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:

7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain [all that dwell near about Araba], in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon [Antilibanus], unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

9 And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:

10 The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

11 (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you! [spoken to you])

12 How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known [and prudente] among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

14 And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.

15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known and prudent men, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers to your judges among your tribes.

16 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great equally; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

18 And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

19 And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

20 And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.

21 Behold, the LORD thy God hath set [has delivered to us] the land before thee: go up and possess [inherit] it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.

22 And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.

23 And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one man of a tribe:

24 And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol [the valley of the cluster], and searched it out.

25 And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.

26 Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment [the words] of the LORD your God:

27 And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

28 Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we [great nation and populous, and mightier than we]; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims [of the giants] there.

29 Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

30 The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight against them for you effectually, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

31 And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen, by the way of the mountain of the Amorite, how that the LORD thy God bare thee as a nursling, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.

32 Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your [our] God,

33 Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.

34 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,

35 Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,

36 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon [on which he went up], and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD [he attended to the things of the Lord].

37 Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither [by any means enter therein].

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

39 Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

40 But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

41 Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD our God, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, and being gathered together, ye were ready to go up into the hill.

42 And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.

43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

45 And ye returned [sat down] and wept before the LORD our God; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.

46 So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.

Numbers - Chapter 1

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness], on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers' families,, with the number of their names, according to their heads: every male by their polls;

3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in the forces of Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

4 And with you there shall be a man [each one of the rulers] of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.

6 Of Simeon; Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

7 Of Judah; Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

8 Of Issachar; Nethaneel the son of Zuar.

9 Of Zebulun; Eliab the son of Helon.

10 Of the children of Joseph: of Ephraim; Elishama the son of Ammihud: of Manasseh; Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

11 Of Benjamin; Abidan the son of Gideoni.

12 Of Dan; Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

13 Of Asher; Pagiel the son of Ocran.

14 Of Gad; Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

15 Of Naphtali; Ahira the son of Enan.

16 These were the renowned of the congregation, princes [heads] of the tribes of their fathers [according to their families], heads of thousands in Israel.

17 And Moses and Aaron took these men which are expressed by their names:

18 And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month [on the first day of the month in the second year], and they declared their pedigrees [registered them after their lineage] after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls [every male according to their number].

19 As the LORD commanded Moses, so he numbered them [so they were numbered] in the wilderness of Sinai.

20 And the children of Reuben, Israel’s eldest son, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their polls [according to their heads], every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

21 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five [four] hundred.

22 Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

23 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.

24 Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

25 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.

26 Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

27 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Judah, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

28 Of the children of Issachar, by their generations, their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

29 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.

30 Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

31 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

32 Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

33 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred.

34 Of the children of Manasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

35 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

36 Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

37 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

38 Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

39 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Dan, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.

40 Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

41 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

42 Of the children of Naphtali, throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

43 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

44 These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: there was a man for each tribe, each one was for the house of his fathers.

45 So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel with their host, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

46 Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them [were not counted among the children of Israel].

48 For the LORD had spoken unto Moses, saying,

49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony [of witness], and over all the vessels thereof [over all its furniture], and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle [do service in it], and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp [in his own order], and every man by his own standard [according to his company], throughout their hosts.

53 But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony [of witness] fronting it, that there be no wrath upon [no sin among] the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony [of witness].

54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

Leviticus - Chapter 1

1 And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness], saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.

3 If his offering be a burnt sacrifice [whole-burnt-offering] of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness] as acceptable before the LORD.

4 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.

5 And he [they] shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle [pour] the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation [of witness].

6 And he shall flay the whole burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces [divide it by its limbs].

7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire:

8 And the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall lay [pile up] the divided parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:

9 But his inwards and his legs [the feet] shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a smell of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

10 And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, or of the kids for a whole-burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish.

11 And he shall lay his hand on its head; and he [they] shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall sprinkle [pour] his blood round about upon the altar.

12 And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order [pile them up] on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:

13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs [the feet] with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a smell of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.

15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and the priest shall burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side [at the bottom] of the altar:

16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:

17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof [break it off from the wings], but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet-smelling savour unto the LORD.

Exodus - Chapter 1

1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household [with their whole Family] came with Jacob their father.

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy [seventy-five] souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we [a great multitude, and is stronger than we];

10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, having prevailed against us in war; and so get them up out of the land.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses, and On, which is Heliopolis.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong. And they, the Egyptians, were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour [tyrannised over the children of Israel by force].

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick [in the clay and in brick-making], and in all manner of service in the field; all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour [with violence].

15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah.

16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools, and they are about to be delivered; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. So they bore children.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses [they established for themselves families].

22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born to the Hebrews ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

Genesis - Chapter 1

1 In the beginning God created [made], the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void [unsightly and unfurnished]; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon, the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day [and there was evening and there was morning, one day].

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters, and it was so.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the second day [and there was evening and there was morning, the second day].

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. [And the water which was under the heaven was collected into its places, and the dry land appeared].

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters [the gatherings of the waters], called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, according to its kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind and according to its likeness, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day [and there was evening and there was morning, the third day].

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness [between the light and the darkness]: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life [reptiles having life], and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven, and it was so.

21 And God created [made], great whales, and every living  creature [reptile] that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful [increase] and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 [And there was evening and there was morning]. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the Earth [quadrupeds and reptiles and wild beasts of the Earth]: and it was so.

25 And God made the wild beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth [reptiles] after his kind: and God saw that it was good [that they were good].

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing [all the reptiles], that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created [made] man in his own image, in the image of God created [made], he him; male and female created [made] he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Increase, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and all the cattle and all the earth, and over every living thing that moveth upon the Earth [all the reptiles that creep on the earth].

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing [sowing] seed , which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, [seed that is sown]; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every wild beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life [which has in itself the breath of life], I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day [and there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day].
